Seafood and science collaboration to strengthen Grimsby's key sector

Eurofins joins university and five key businesses for talks on future needs and challenges

Opportunities to strengthen scientific support for the seafood industry are being explored by a leading sector-serving laboratory.

Core challenges facing the industry as a whole, specifically around food safety, authenticity, and skills training, have been highlighted.

Eurofins Food and Water Testing º£½ÇÊÓÆµ & Ireland held talks with five leading businesses and the University of Lincoln to look at emerging requirements.

It sought to understand commercial needs and constraints as it aims to enhance collaborative support.

Mark Carnaghan, managing director, was joined by his group technical and quality director, senior group microbiologist and chemist in discussions at Grimsby Enterprise Village.

He said: “With a well-established presence in Grimsby, we’re hugely committed to the region’s fishing industry and in supporting businesses to create even safer working environments.

“Our discussions with the University of Lincoln could lead to an exciting collaboration with our local communities to launch a series of new initiatives, identify opportunities to enhance food safety, authenticity and training, and to ultimately help safeguard the future of the fishing industry.”
