HMRC has started recruiting for its new 10 storey Unity Square hub, next to Nottingham railway station.

Thousands of government workers will eventually work at the new base, which was formally handed over last May.

The tax department has a 25-year pre-let on the Queensbridge Road site, in Nottingham, with Peveril Securities and its joint venture partner Sladen Estates.

Some 4,000 workers from HMRC and other government departments will start moving in this year.

The government department is now advertising for 100 customer service advisors to join the team there, offering full training and a starting salary of up to 拢22,084.

The new offices have been developed as part of the regeneration of Nottingham鈥檚 Southside area, which has received 拢62 million of support from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.

Other projects supported have included a central library, bus station, a new car park, and improvements to public spaces and roads.

There has also been backing for the new Nottingham College City Hub and the redeveloped Nottingham Castle.

The LEP said: 鈥淗MRC are looking for enthusiastic, helpful individuals of all ages to apply for one hundred customer service advisor roles.

鈥淪uccessful applicants to these new roles will be the first point of contact for HMRC customers and will provide support and advice by phone, email, letter and through webchat.

鈥淭o join the team at HMRC, applicants are not expected to have experience in similar roles, as full training will be provided.

鈥淭his makes these jobs ideal for young people leaving education or adults who wish to change careers.

鈥淔lexible working arrangements are also available, including periods working from home.鈥

Coun Rebecca Langton is Nottingham City Council portfolio holder for skills, growth and economic development.

She said: 鈥淭he city council鈥檚 ambition to transform this part of the city has prompted major investment, including the HMRC鈥檚 new Unity Square development near the station.

鈥淚t鈥檚 great to now see new job opportunities coming forward.

鈥淭hroughout the pandemic, the city council has prioritised support for residents of all ages, whether they are looking for training and advice to start or change their careers, to find work to support them and their families or to realise their career ambitions.

鈥淏y promoting these brand new roles with a significant local employer, HM Revenue and Customs, we are saying clearly to local people that Nottingham is a city which can provide excellent and long-term job opportunities, and that the economic recovery of the city after the pandemic is progressing well.鈥
