A º£½ÇÊÓƵ-based publisher has leapfrogged the BBC to claim the country's fifth-biggest online audience.
The Reach network was visited by 41.05m people in October, up 2m on the previous month, according to the industry’s online audience measurement company Comscore.
This makes Reach the first º£½ÇÊÓƵ news group to pass the 40 million mark, and puts the network ahead of the BBC, News º£½ÇÊÓƵ and the Daily Mail in terms of online audience, and behind only US giants Google, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft.
The results confirm Reach - parent company of BusinessLive, the Daily Mirror and dozens of regional titles - as the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's largest news media publisher, reaching 82% of the total digital population.
The audience share on mobile devices is ever higher, with 90% of all smartphone and tablet users visiting its network in October.
David Higgerson, chief audience officer for Reach, credits this audience growth to its 'online first' focus.
He said: "We have experienced journalists in newsrooms across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ working around the clock to bring the stories that matter to local communities as they happen. Our company vision has always been to reach more people, more often, more meaningfully, and these record-breaking figures confirm this commitment to our audience."
The results come on the back of news that Reach will be expanding its network with the launch of seven new 'Live' websites in the coming months.

Mr Higgerson added: "With the new sites allowing us to expand into areas where we don't currently have a regional presence, coupled with our continued focus on producing engaging content that makes a difference to the lives of local people, we expect our audience share to rise even further in the future."

Reach is also keen to highlight the 'True Local' figures that were published earlier this year by industry body JICREG. True Local combines digital and print readerships to create a single, quantifiable audience figure for local areas.
Nick Copson, marketing director for the Reach regional titles, said: "The True Local figures are truly eye-opening and demonstrate the huge reach we have in towns and cities across the country.
"Every month we reach 88% of all adults living in Plymouth, for example. In Hull it's 89%, and in Bristol its 86%. So for every 10 local customers that come into a Bristol business, eight or nine of them will consume our media each month.
"This is great news for us, and even better news for our advertisers.”
