Pinsent Masons’ tax specialist Ian Hyde has been appointed as a judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Tax Chamber.

Mr Hyde will be a ‘fee-paid’ judge, meaning he will sit on a part time basis, and will take up the position later this year.

A well-known tax litigator, he recently advised UBS in the Court of Appeal in relation to a dispute with HMRC over its tax arrangements.

Mr Hyde was recognised as a ‘notable practitioner’ in the most recent edition of Legal 500 º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

He said: “It is a tremendous honour to be appointed to this role, and I am absolutely delighted.

“I look forward to experiencing the Tax Tribunal from the other side of the bench.”

James Bullock, head of litigation and compliance at Pinsent Masons, added: “This is a significant achievement for Ian and a positive reflection on the high regard with which our tax practice is viewed by the market.

“Obviously Ian will remain as a partner in Pinsent Masons and continue to fulfil his client obligations.”
