海角视频 human resources firm the HR Department has appointed a new managing director for Bristol, Bath and North Somerset.
Sam Ali, 44, is taking over the helm of the company鈥檚 largest franchise - and says she has 鈥渁mbitious鈥 plans to boost revenue by 50 per cent in her first year.
Ms Ali says she is also planning to spearhead a renewed focus on diversity and inclusion at the firm, which has its head and its local franchise offices at Brook Office Park in Longwell Green.
She says she hopes her appointment can 鈥減lay its part鈥 in promoting racial equality in the workplace.
鈥淚t鈥檚 been a long journey to get here,鈥 she said, 鈥渁nd I鈥檝e had to overcome many hurdles and barriers during my time.
鈥淚 know that I鈥檝e missed out on opportunities because of my ethnicity and being a woman, as well because of the perceptions and assumptions some people have had of me as a single mum.
鈥淪o I鈥檓 delighted that The HR Dept has looked past those features of my life, as well as seeing past my headscarf, to understand who I am, to appreciate my expertise and the knowledge I can bring to the business.
鈥淚鈥檓 pleased to have been appointed on my merits and it鈥檚 an honour to be working for such a well-established company with a great reputation in Bristol, Bath and the surrounding areas.鈥
Ms Ali, a business development specialist, has worked in a variety of roles in HR, advertising, management consultancy and marketing in Wales and the South West.
She is also an ambassador for Women鈥檚 Aid and is a board member at the National Trust, where one of her project streams is to increase inclusivity at the organisation.
'It is possible for younger women from the BAME community not to feel restricted'
鈥淏y achieving this role with The HR Dept, I want to show that it is possible for younger women from the BAME community not to feel restricted,鈥 she said.
鈥淚 want them to know that the opportunities are out there with the right employers. This appointment is an example of the ways that attitudes are changing.
鈥淔or the business itself, I want to introduce new technologies, new ways of working, a complete shift in culture change so that we鈥檙e at the forefront while increasing revenue at the same time.鈥
The HR Dept has a network of 75 franchisees operating in 112 territories, with 11 in Australia and the rest based across the 海角视频 and Ireland.
The Bristol, Bath and North Somerset franchise was the first to be set up in 2005, three years after the original business was founded by Sue Tumelty in 2002.

Mrs Tumelty, who is still an executive director of the business, said she was "excited" about Ms Ali鈥檚 appointment - not just for the Bristol franchise but for the 海角视频-wide network as a whole.
鈥淭he Bristol, Bath and North Somerset licence is our original and biggest franchise,鈥 she said. 鈥淲ith Sam鈥檚 appointment I see it being a centre of excellence moving forward, a flagship for our company for things like innovation, R&D, to lead the rest of the network by example.
鈥淪am also has a valuable role to play in contributing to the overall commercial strategy for The HR Dept as we look to work with bigger and national clients, developing partnerships in the city which can demonstrate the potential for the company nationwide.鈥
