Nageena Khalique, a barrister at Birmingham’s No5 Chambers, is to be appointed Her Majesty’s Queen’s Counsel.

Ms Khalique is head of the public law group at No5, and her appointment takes the number of silks at the set to 28.

She is also head of inquests, public inquiries and the coronial law group and head of the Court of Protection group.

The married mother of two is a former hospital dentist who specialised in oral and maxillofacial surgery to registrar level before being called to the Bar in 1994.

As head of the Court of Protection group at No5, Khalique Ms Khalique regularly appears in the Court of Protection, the High Court, Family Division and the Court of Appeal.

She has particular expertise in complex medical cases relating to gynaecological treatment, sterilisation, dental and medical treatments, amputation, minimally conscious patients and those in a permanent vegetative state.

Ms Khalique said: “I am both delighted and gratified to become a QC, and it is a rewarding way to celebrate my 21 years at the bar.

“I am joining an incredible team of QCs at No5, who between them offer many, many years of experience across a whole host of expertise, and I look forward to a busy and exciting year ahead.”
