Law firm Muckle has hailed another successful year having grown turnover and profits in its latest set of accounts.

The Newcastle LLP, which also runs offices in Cumbria and on Teesside, saw turnover boosted by 12% to more than £19m in the year to the end of March, 2025. Operating profit grew modestly from £4.04m to £4.82m, while pre-tax profit was up from £4.2m to £5m.

Partners in the North East Business of the Year-winning company pointed to investment over the past two years, and singled out growth in its agriculture, rural estates, and private client divisions which saw 27% growth. Meanwhile, the firm's construction team - which has seen senior appointments - grew 20% and its national debt recovery practice saw 17% growth.

Muckle said that following its appointment to several public and third-sector panels in its 2024 financial year, it has also grown its public sector work, along with sports, education and charities instructions. The success means Muckle staff benefited from a £301,000 payment under its employee profit share scheme.

During the year under review, nine new employees were appointed making for a 200-strong team. A number if promotions also came across the firm's disputes, commercial and corporate teams.

Four partners were promoted to equity partner status in April, with new managing partner Anthony Evans taking over from Jason Wainwright, who led the firm for a decade. Mr Wainwright is credited with having fostered an award-winning workplace, with recent achievements including scooping Best Place to Work at the North East Business Awards for the third year in a row.

The firm was also accredited by the North of Tyne Combined Authority and its Advanced Good Work Pledge and carries a Platinum Investors in People status. In the year before Muckle became certified B-Corp and in its latest accounts pointed to £46,000 of donations to more than 30 charities including Clean Slate Solutions in Teesside and Carlisle Key in Cumbria and grants to Choyzez and The Country Trust, which operate in Northumberland.

Mr Evans said: "We are delighted with how we’ve done over the last year. We have a fantastic and engaged team in addition to having great clients. Our financial performance this year also reflects our great culture, the investments we have made and our long-term strategy.

"By having a well-communicated vision and five-year plan, we have been able to set clear goals which our team has done a fantastic job in achieving. By ensuring we grow sustainably, keeping to our culture and values, we will be successful for our clients, team and our communities.

"It’s an exciting time for the firm, as we are now in the last year of our current five-year plan, and just about to launch our plan for the next five years."

Within the accounts, Mr Evans said the next five-year plan would include more investment with FY2026 likely to see more spending and top-line growth.
