Manchester commercial law firm Kuits has been successful in advising the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists on a licence for its new headquarters in London.
The college, which has a membership of 16,000 and works to improve women’s health care across the world, is moving its campus to Southwark in Spring 2020.
Licensing expert at Kuits, Anthony Lyons, led the team that showcased to the Southwark Council licensing sub-committee that the college’s leisure offering would not add to the cumulative impact experienced in the Borough and Bankside area.
Despite opposition, the application was deemed exceptional because of the college’s exemplary record of operating a licensed premises in Westminster with no prior issues.
The new licence will also be primarily used for educational purposes and events, not an alcohol-led offering.
The granted licence will allow the college to operate until 00.30am from Sunday to Thursday and 1.30am on a Friday and Saturday.
Anthony Lyons said: “We are delighted to have advised the college in gaining an extremely positive outcome, which will give them the opportunity, in continued partnership with Grayson’s Catering, to host conferences, seminars and events in their superb new headquarters at 10 Union Street.”
Kuits is the only firm in the North West with a licensing team ranked in the top-tier by Legal 500, a global directory of law firms.
It has a growing number of leisure clients in the capital including the London Science Museum, Somerset House, as well as supporting national brands with openings in the city such as BrewDog and The Alchemist.
