Hull-headquartered law firm Hudgell Solicitors has further strengthened its position in the clinical negligence market after it agreed a deal to take on the entire department at HH Legal.

A nine-strong team of specialists will move to the firm, bringing with them a high value case load.

It follows HH鈥檚 acquisition of Yorkshire-based Heptonstalls Solicitors, which has offices in Goole and Pontefract, earlier this year.

The Shrewsbury-based practice has decided to focus on other areas of law, making the move a strategic fit for both.

Hudgell鈥檚 chief executive, Rachel Di Clemente, said she was delighted to welcome the 鈥渢alented team of lawyers鈥 to the firm, itself just recognised in the Times Best Law Firms 2021.

She told how Heptonstalls had supported people in clinical negligence cases for more than 30 years, developing a particularly experienced team in birth, spinal and brain injuries.

HH owners Shane Hensman and Dominic Weir are focusing on personal injury and industrial disease, and Mrs Di Clemente feels the move has proved perfect for both parties.

鈥淭his is a perfect acquisition for us at Hudgell Solicitors as we are taking on an established clinical negligence practice with many synergies to the work we do here at Hudgells,鈥 she said.

鈥淐rucially, we are adding yet more experienced and talented legal specialists to our team who come with a reputation of not only being very good at their jobs but also for providing excellent client care.

鈥淭heir addition will ensure we can expand our reach much further and represent more clients each year.

鈥淭his acquisition has worked well for both Hudgells and HH Group; we are both looking to grow in different areas of expertise and we have worked together to help each other move forward.

鈥淚n the current climate each and every law firm has to carefully assess its work areas and identify which are the most beneficial to them. In this case it was perfect timing for both us and the HH Group given their desire to move Heptonstalls out of the clinical negligence market.

鈥淭hey know their clients are being transferred to a firm with a track record of taking over claims, ensuring a smooth transition for clients and providing a first class service to run them to settlement.鈥

Mrs Di Clements said the deal was able to be finalised within a short time frame due to acquisition experience and the 鈥済reat work鈥 of Jo Glass and Melloney Guiver at London-based Gunnercooke LLP on behalf of HH Legal.
