Barristers’ set Kings Chambers has reported a record year with billings increasing by 17 per cent to more than £29 million.

Kings Chambers, which opened in Birmingham in 2012, boasts more than 100 barristers as members including sixteen QCs and also has chambers in Leeds and Manchester.

Law firms in Birmingham instructing Kings include Eversheds, Shoosmiths, Irwin Mitchell, Weightmans, Slater and Gordon and Mills & Reeve.

Key areas of specialism at Kings in Birmingham are chancery and commercial, planning and public law, personal injury and clinical negligence, employment and costs.

Several members of Kings have been admitted in foreign jurisdictions including the Courts of the Dubai International Financial Centre and many members act as arbitrators, mediators and adjudicators or as a chair or panel member of dispute resolution boards.

Gary Smith, chief clerk at Kings Chambers in Birmingham, said: “Since we launched in Birmingham three years ago we’ve seen exponential growth each year.

“There’s no reason for a solicitor in Birmingham to instruct a London set when we’ve some of the finest barristers practising in the city centre.

“We’re now servicing work which routinely went to London counsel a few years ago and this has seen our members work on increasingly large cases.
