It was 1994 when Hull businessman Paul Sewell spotted the potential of facilities management.

At the time, the sector barely existed in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, but a holiday to Florida in the USA opened the entrepreneur’s eyes to an opportunity which could add value to his existing construction business.

Paul and other directors at Sewell Group took the bold leap to partner with Hull-based Cleaning & Paper Disposables Ltd, and launched the arm of the business known as Sewell Facilities Management.

Last week, Sewell FM celebrated 25 years of business in Hull.

The company has grown to boast an impressive portfolio of services, with customers including schools, garage forecourts, health centres and business offices.

To mark the quarter-century anniversary, former journalist and PR consultant Phil Ascough caught up with the team at Sewell FM.

Phil covered the launch of Sewell FM back in 1994. Here, he takes a look at the company’s history, and its future plans for growth.

'The company is hitting targets, setting new ones and doing well'

As they reach their historic quarter-century milestone a fair question for the team at Sewell FM might be whether they, as a business, have achieved the “day one” quality standard which they set for the schools, health centres and other buildings in their care.
