A Tyneside waste management group is set to create new jobs after creating a new refurbish and recycle division.

Waste management and logistics company GAP Group (North East) Limited has launched GAP Renew, a national refurbish and recycle service for white goods and electrical appliance manufacturers.

The firm has created an initial nine new roles, and now plans to increase this to 15 over the next year at its Gateshead site, as it targets recycling or reusing 500,000 electric units in its first year. The roles include mainly warehouse staff in the 39,000sqft base as well as some admin roles, including the appointment of new managing director Steve Lineton.

GAP is aiming to provide electronic and white goods manufacturers with a complete recycle and renew service, in moves to protect the environment by boosting the circular economy.

Mr Lineton said: “As part of GAP Group’s commitment to environmental responsibility GAP Renew has incredible potential to redefine the returns landscape and support brands in their journey towards a circular economy reusing valuable resource. GAP Renew is the next stage in the company’s long term vision for a environmentally sustainable future, is fully operational now and aiming to reuse and recycle at least 500,000 electrical and electronic units in the first year.

“We’re aiming to be the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s leading rework and reuse partner, collaborating with brands across the sector, transforming WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) practices.

“Because GAP can offer all of its refurb and recycle in-house we are offering the markets only truly 360 degree solution either refurbishing or recycling under one roof. This in turn will protect manufacturers brand value, boost their bottom line and reduce vendors carbon usage.”
