One of Ireland and Ulster rugby’s most iconic players has launched a sports recruitment company.
David Humphreys, who played 72 times for Ireland, captained and acted as Director of Operations for Ulster Rugby and was most recently Gloucester Rugby’s Director of Rugby, has launched SportsWork.
It aims to match up sports organisations which want to recruit staff with candidates who want to work in sport.

“My vision for SportsWork is to build a community of people who are passionate about a career in sport, and connect them to global opportunities to work in sport,” Mr Humphreys said in a post on LinkedIn.
He said the issue of recruiting the right talent had emerged as an issue during his time working off the pitch in rugby.
“As a director of rugby working in professional rugby, recruitment was a key part of my role,” he said. “For most people, recruitment is associated with high profile player signings and dealing with agents – that is the easy part of recruitment!
“Instead, hiring the quality and calibre of staff needed to deliver a high-performance environment was much more challenging and based on 10 years’ experience, I believe there is a better way to find and hire talent in the sporting world. To solve this problem, we have launched Sportswork.co.”
Current posts on the site are advertised by Aston Villa FC, England Rugby and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Born in Belfast and a qualified solicitor, Mr Humphreys went on to significant success during his career, playing for London Irish and Ulster, most memorably captaining Ulster to victory in the 1999 Heineken Cup, and was a key member of the team before hanging up his boots in 2008.
He notched up 560 international points for Ireland, playing up until the 2006 Six Nations and at the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
But it was in his roles as Director of Operations at Ulster Rugby and Director of Rugby at Gloucester Rugby where Mr Humphreys saw a gap for a specialist sports recruitment company.
