Hortons
Beth Shaw, regional director at Leicestershire estate agency Hortons, has been recognised in The Negotiators ‘Women in Property’ Power List for 2020.

The annual list names the women with the greatest influence and top jobs in the 海角视频 sales and lettings sector.
Beth has been in the property industry for 13 years and had previously worked at John German and Newton Fallowell before joining Hortons in 2017, managing its Ashby-de-la-Zouch office.
She became Hortons’ first partner agent, running the North West Leicestershire territory before being promoted to regional director at the firm earlier this year.
CEO Adam Horton said: “Beth is not only a highly accomplished estate agent, responsible for some of the most notable sales in the county, but is also an inspirational leader within our company.
“Beth has played a key role in Hortons growth, so It’s great to see her recognised in the Power List this year, it is very well deserved.”

Institution of Occupational Safety and Health
After four-and-a-half years in her role, Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) chief executive Bev Messinger will retire in mid-2021.
During her time at the Leicestershire-based organisation Bev has overseen the successful implementation of a five-year strategy, WORK 2022, and led a comprehensive and successful transformation programme.
Bev’s leadership of IOSH during the Covid-19 pandemic this year has demonstrated the organisation’s flexibility and resilience. It set an important example, in March, moving almost all staff to successful remote working for the safety, health and wellbeing of them and their families.
She said: “After an amazing four and a half years leading this exceptional organisation and working with a brilliant team and hundreds of inspiring volunteers, 2021 will be the right time for me to pursue long-held plans to develop a non-exec portfolio which I postponed this year to lead the institution through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the hard work everyone at IOSH has done to take us on the journey from where we were in 2016 to the stronger position we’re in now.”

Banner Jones Solicitors has announced the further expansion of its care proceedings team in Chesterfield with the appointment of solicitor Melanie Hoffman.
Mel joins the team with more than 10 years’ experience and a specialist background in criminal defence proceedings.
She is a respected trial advocate and has experience managing complex cases involving expert evidence, in addition to robustly defending her clients in court.
Her emphasis on personally conducting all aspects of her clients’ matter in summary cases has provided her with experience in making sure that the rights of some of the most vulnerable members of the community are protected.
She has a particular interest in people with mental health and learning difficulties, including parents with substance misuse problems.
In her previous role in criminal defence, Mel vigorously defended all types of matters and brings to her new role a forensic approach.
She said: “I have concentrated upon protecting the rights of some of the most vulnerable members of our community and this is never more important than when trying to ensure that children can safely remain within their families”.
Mel will be working alongside Peter Jones at the firm’s Chesterfield office. Peter continues to work as a consultant with the firm and has over 30 years’ experience in the field of family law and child protection.

Custodian Reit
Specialist wealth management and employee benefits business Mattioli Woods has announced the appointment of Professor Barry Gilbertson to the role of Executive Chairman of its subsidiary, Custodian Capital, as of January 1.
Barry was until recently senior independent non-executive director Custodian REIT, the Leicester-based property investment company, for which Custodian Capital (CCL) is the appointed discretionary investment manager.
He previously held non-executive director roles at Rona Inc and Granite REIT.
In his executive career, Barry spent 19 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, 15 years as a partner, developing and leading the real estate team within the business recovery and turnaround practice including three years as a member of the PwC’s Global Real Estate Board.
He was granted a one year sabbatical to undertake a global position as president of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and has was founder chairman of the Non-Administrative Receivers Association, founder deputy chairman of the World Association of Valuation Organisations, a leading member of the United Nations Real Estate Advisory Group and The Bank of England Property Forum and as visiting professor at both Northumbria and the Royal Agricultural Universities.

Erewash Partnership
A university academic specialising in business has been elected as the new chair of enterprise agency Erewash Partnership.
Bev Crighton, who is a senior lecturer in business management at the University of Derby specialising in human resources and development, was chosen by the board of directors which she joined in 2015, although she had worked with the partnership before that.
As well as being the first person not actively working in a local business to take on the post she is also the first woman to head the partnership in its 26-year history.
The partnership helps people start business and nurtures them through the difficult early phases and continues to support them when established with advice and practical support which it has adapted through the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is headquartered in Long Eaton and has managed work spaces in the town and Ilkeston
Bev said: “I’m very excited that my colleagues on the board had the confidence to confer this role on me at a difficult time.
“The partnership was set up to regenerate the local economy after it had suffered big losses of traditional industries and skills.
“It has done a great job over the years but now with this virus is facing new challenges to help businesses.
“But the hard work that the partnership is doing - while not being able to do some traditional activities - is helping to turn problems for individuals and businesses into new opportunities.”
Bev began her career in banking and after reaching managerial level worked for a major newspaper group for 20 years including in human resources and development. She worked in education management and as a lecturer in the private sector before joining the university 11 years ago.
Bev has taken over from Ian Hopkinson, of Derwent Analytics, who was chair for the past four years. He has now retired and moved to Lincolnshire.
The new vice-chair of the partnership is Richard Ledger, managing director of Draycott-based Millitec, which designs and manufactures machinery for the food industry and exports across the world.
He is also chair of Long Eaton Town Board, which is shaping an investment plan for the town in the hope of winning substantial Government funding.
McDonald’s
McDonald’s franchisee Sarah McLean, who owns and operates 21 restaurants across the East and West Midlands, has won the ‘Hera Award’ category of the Natwest Everywoman Awards 2020.
The awards celebrate female entrepreneurs from all walks of life, providing a platform for them to share their achievements. From the founders of international multi-million-pound empires to those spearheading social enterprises for the greater good, this year’s finalists are the role models whose success will inspire future generations of female entrepreneurs.
Sarah, who has been a McDonald’s franchisee for 18 years, won the award which is given to the most inspirational woman running a business trading for 10 years or more.
Sarah started her career with McDonald’s back in 1982 as a graduate trainee and has progressed through the ranks to franchisee, now employing more than 2,200 staff – making her the brand’s largest female franchisee.
As chair of the McDonald’s National Leadership team, Sarah was central to the launch of McDonald’s at-home delivery service, McDelivery.
She has previously won the Three Legged Stool Award and the Fred L. Turner Golden Arch Award, the highest recognition for a McDonald’s franchisee.
Only one percent of franchisees across the world will receive this recognition in their careers.
Sarah said: “I am incredibly proud to be recognised as the winner of the Natwest Everywoman Hera Award – it’s recognition like this which makes all the years of hard work and sacrifice to reach my goals worthwhile.
“I hope that my story will empower and inspire other women to pursue careers within business.”
HSG
Washroom services and water conservation specialists HSG have appointed David Tainton as operations director to lead the company through its next stage of expansion.
Mr Tainton has held senior operational and technological strategic positions at several major companies including Capital One, Sky 海角视频, Egg and Pendragon and joins the Derby-based HSG at a pivotal point in its 12-year history.
HSG managing director Simon Rice explained: “David’s experience in both operational change and digital transformation will be crucial to ensure effective growth across all aspects of the business as we broaden our geographical reach and increase our employee numbers.
