A Bournemouth-based company has been acquired by a larger insurance firm for an undisclosed sum.
Independent broker Bournemouth Insurance Group (BIG) has been bought by Alan and Thomas Insurance Group (A&T) which is headquartered in Poole.
BIG, whose office is located on Wimborne Road in the Winton area of the seaside town was founded in 1972.
The firm writes commercial and personal lines insurance, including private clients, fleet, commercial property, directors and officers liability, cyber and has its own specialist marine division, Nationwide Marine Insurance.
As part of the agreement BIG will remain operating from its Winton office with all of its team, including directors Jason and Paul Hicks, staying on under its new ownership.

A&T was founded in 1975 and since 2017 has been part of the wider insurance intermediary group Global Risk Partners (GRP).

The deal for BIG marks the company’s 13th acquisition since its formation, and its third since becoming GRP’ Southern hub, following A&T’s deal for London-based property owners’ specialist Aquilla Insurance Brokers in November last year.
