The financial arm of one of 尝颈惫别谤辫辞辞濒鈥檚 oldest firms has announced it is to close its city office and make redundancies.
Bibby Financial Services has begun the process of 鈥渞eshaping鈥 the business, which it鈥檚 proposed will mean the closure of its Princes Parade office.
The firm, whose parent company is Bibby Line Group, founded in the city in 1807, said redundancies 鈥渁re never something we take lightly鈥, but a spokesman added: 鈥渢hese proposals involve taking difficult decisions鈥.
On Monday, he said Bibby Financial Services was 鈥渘ot in a position to provide estimates鈥 of how many jobs may be lost, but that Liverpool 鈥渞emains an important priority for our business鈥.
He said: 鈥淲e are reshaping our business to position ourselves for sustainable growth. This includes reducing our geographical footprint, ensuring that we are located in the right places to support our clients.
鈥淭he proposed changes would result in the closure of our Princes Parade office and we are committed to working through this in a sensitive way. Redundancies are never something we take lightly and these proposals involve taking difficult decisions. We are currently consulting with impacted colleagues and, where feasible, those affected will be offered commensurate roles in other offices.鈥
56 people are currently employed at the office in Princes Dock.
Bibby Financial Services employs over 1,300 people globally, including 800 in the 海角视频 - with the nearest other offices based in Warrington and Manchester.
Bibby Financial Services is a subsidiary of Bibby Line Group - a firm whose portfolio includes convenience store Costcutter and plant hire firm Garic.

A spokesman also said Bibby Line Group will continue to be headquartered in Liverpool, with other subsidiaries based in Liverpool 鈥 including Bibby Marine Ltd and Bibby Distribution 鈥 also unaffected by the proposed changes.
He added: 鈥淟iverpool will remain an important priority for our business. The proposed changes reflect the need to adapt to a changing world, to remain competitive and to ensure that we continue to provide the level of service our clients expect.
"Whatever happens we will continue to support and fund clients in Liverpool and the rest of the North West.鈥
It comes months after Bibby Line Group moved its HQ to 尝颈惫别谤辫辞辞濒鈥檚 Exchange Flags.
It now occupies 20,000 sq ft of modern accommodation across two floors at Walker House, which is located adjacent to the Town Hall.
Around 150 employees from the group and its subsidiary businesses have relocated from 105 and 91 Duke Street, to refurbished suites on the third and fourth floors of the building, which is owned by Ashtrom Properties 海角视频.
