Baroness Helena Morrissey is to step down from the board of wealth manager St James's Place to become the new chair of Salford-headquartered AJ Bell.

Baroness Morrissey has been appointed as a non-executive director with the listed company with the view to becoming the firm's new chair, succeeding Les Platts at the next annual general meeting, subject to regulatory and shareholder approval.

The AGM is due to take place in January 2022, while Baroness Morrissey will join the board as chair designate on July 2.

Baroness Morrissey is currently lead non-executive director for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, reporting to the Foreign Secretary and has recently stepped down as non-executive director at St James's Place.

Previously, she was head of personal investing at Legal & General Investment Management and prior to that was chief executive at Newton Investment Management for 15 years.

In 2010 Baroness Morrissey founded the 30% Club and has played a leading role in improving diversity on the boards of 'º£½ÇÊÓƵ plc'.

In a statement issued to the London Stock Exchange, AJ Bell also confirmed the appointment of Evelyn Bourke as a non-executive director from July 1.

She is currently non-executive director at Marks & Spencer Group and non-executive director and chair of Audit Committee at Bank of Ireland Group.
