Marston’s has posted a health set of half-yearly results, with revenue and profit both up for the brewer and pub company.

Revenue was up by 4.5 per cent to £374.3 million while pre-tax profit increased by 9.4 per cent to £29 million.

The company said it was on target to build 27 new pubs this year with 11 already completed.

Franchise expansion has seen 65 pubs converted in the first half of the year to April 6, while 286 smaller wet-led pubs had been sold for £116 million

Chief executive Ralph Findlay said: “The first half year was good and current trading is strong.

“We are creating a higher quality pub estate which is delivering positive trading momentum and meets the expectations of today’s customers.

“We opened 11 new pub-restaurants in the first half and remain on track to open at least 27 in total this year.

“Our 100th new pub since 2009 will open this summer, with 5,000 jobs having been created.”
