Science students at Worcester Sixth Form College are benefiting from a new facility following a £900,000 investment from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.

The financial package enabled the building of a new science unit on the college’s main campus on Spetchley Road, which includes four laboratories, replacing the previous facilities which were in place since the 1960s.

The new building will also host a new IT room, together with open spaces for free study.

The building has helped the college to increase its capacity, with around fifty more students joining this year.

It was officially opened at an event on October 9 with Dr Lucie Green from BBC’s ‘The Sky at Night’ cutting the ribbon before delivering a guest lecture.

Michael Kitcatt, principal of Worcester Sixth Form College, said: “We’re committed to providing quality study facilities for the benefit of our students, and this investment from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, alongside grants from the Education Funding Agency and Worcester City Council, has allowed us to realise our ambitions for a new, built-for-purpose science unit that’s fit for modern learning.

“The new building features state-of-the-art laboratories, as well as top-class IT and study space, and we’re sure students will reap the benefits of this important new addition to the college.”

Jatinder Dhaliwal, relationship manager at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “This is an investment which reinforces Lloyds Bank’s specialist knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of the education sector.
