A branch of Barclays Bank in Derby which offers a range of services to business customers has been put up for rent ahead of its closure later this year.

For many years, Barclays Business Centre, in Sir Frank Whittle Road, has been serving both corporate clients and the public.

However, it has now emerged that the branch will close on Friday, September 13 - and commercial property agents Salloway have been appointed to find a new occupier to move in once Barclays vacates the building.

According to the bank, it has decided to close the branch because of a sharp fall in over-the-counter transactions over the past two years.

It also said that 84% of branch customers use other ways to do their banking, such as online and by telephone.

It added that in the past year, 50% of customers have been using neighbouring branches and that only 60 customers use the Sir Frank Whittle Road branch exclusively.

In documents explaining the decision, Barclays said: “Before we make the decision to close any branch we think carefully about how it has been used so far.

“We consider how many customers have been visiting, what kind of transactions they’ve been making and all the other ways they’ve been choosing to bank with us.
