Business advisory firm Deloitte has promoted Darren Stephens to head of tax in the Midlands.

Mr Stephens, who has been with the firm for 23 years, is now responsible for a team of more than 200 tax professionals, including 15 partners.

He said: “It’s a very exciting time for Deloitte’s tax practice in the Midlands as we start to see the realisation of what can be achieved when matching technical skills with new technology.

“As a practice we have always strived to be as agile and responsive to clients and market conditions as possible, and now we are truly able to service our clients in different ways – ensuring that they pay the right amount of tax, at the right time.”

Ian Barnes takes up the role of head of business tax, returning to the region where he began his career in 1999.

Mr Barnes has spent the last four years leading Deloitte’s corporate tax team in Reading.

He said: “I’m delighted to be back. Seeing so many familiar faces in the business marketplace, many of which I grew up with professionally, just shows why returning was such a good decision.”
