A new £1 million fund for innovative SMEs has been launched by industry body Creative England to help in the healthcare sector.

It is operating in partnership with funding body Nominet Trust and the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust.

The fund is aiming to encourage small creative and digital businesses in the Midlands to develop innovative concepts or prototypes using digital technology to improve patient care and health services.

The West Midlands Interactive Healthcare Fund is a £250,000 fund that will offer five £50,000 investments to support projects which focus on improving quality of care, caring for people with dementia, supporting people with long-term conditions and data visualisation.

Jim Farmery, director of business development at Creative England, said: "Creative businesses working at the cutting edge of their field in mobile technology and app development have the potential to improve the health and wellbeing of patients using the technology we already have at our fingertips.

"Our Interactive Healthcare Fund will combine creativity and healthcare to prove just how powerful creative businesses can be when it comes to cross-sector collaboration and developing products that extend beyond the creative industries themselves."

Bethan Bishop, head of innovation and industry engagement at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, added: "This partnership provides an extremely exciting opportunity for all involved.
