A Worcestershire cold storage business has expanded into new premises after securing funding from Barclays.

Redditch-based Calderhead Refrigerated Transport has purchased the 1.5 acre site on Little Forge Road which will enable the company to further expand its services.

The business will maintain its existing cold storage site at Hemming Road, giving the company a total storage area of 40,000 square feet.

The family owned business, which stores and distributes frozen food, was established in 1994 by Ian Calderhead.

Today the business is run by his daughter Sara Owrid and employs 12 people – a figure that is set to increase as the business continues to grow.

Ms Owrid, the company’s managing director, said: “The business has continued to do well and when the opportunity arose to purchase the new site, it was too good to miss.”

Mohammed Fiaz, senior business manager at Barclays supported the transaction.

He added: “Calderhead has a strong management team and a clear strategic growth plan. This latest move will enable the business to achieve their growth aspirations.”
