140 new tech jobs created in Birmingham city centre

Up to 140 new jobs will be created over the next three years in Birmingham after a financial technology firm opened a new hub in the city centre.

Lombard Risk Management has today launched its new technology centre in Alpha Tower from where it will develop and produce a new generation of of 'fintech' products.

The company said it was attracted by Birmingham's talent pool and picked the city over a number of other international options it was considering.

Its new base here will allow it to have a centre within easy reach of its London HQ and enable developers to work closely with key businesses.

Financial technology, or 'fintech', involves companies using technology to make financial services and products.

Lombard Risk was founded in 1989 and also has offices in New York, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo alongside service centres in Europe, the US and Africa.

Its clients include banking businesses, investment and insurance firms, asset managers and large corporations worldwide.

Chief technology officer Mike Payne said: "This is an exciting opportunity for Lombard Risk, an opportunity to establish a first-class development centre using the most up-to-date technologies and methods.
