How a Leicestershire businesswoman helped thousands of students study at home during the pandemic

Fiona Bradley-Barlow had to rethink the way her company provided qualifications and courses for accountancy students

A Leicestershire businesswoman has described how her business came up with a system of helping thousands of students study at home during the pandemic thanks to support from Innovate º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

Sage Qualifications director Fiona Bradley-Barlow said she had to rethink the way her company provided qualifications and courses for accountancy and payroll students in schools, colleges and universities when the first lockdown came in.

When the pandemic hit, thousands of students who would normally have studied in a classroom, found themselves stuck at home and looking for new ways of completing their courses.

Ms Bradley-Barlow said a number of colleges and universities turned to her business, based in the village of Newtown Linford, to find a way of allowing students to have the right software needed to continue their studies at home.

As well as doing that she also came up with a way of allowing for learning materials to go up on an interactive portal and to provide timed assessments.

She said throughout the pandemic remote assessment enabled thousands of college and university students to complete their degree course or qualification at home.

Sage Qualifications also developed an AutoMarking system to investigate students’ data entries in the accounting software, and automatically mark their work.

The student gets feedback automatically detailing where they have made mistakes (marked in red) and what is required to correct the data.
