Award sees accountants as “unsung heroes” of lockdown

Winner will receive cash and business improvement training and advice valued at more than £12,000

Are you an accounting hero?

A new award has been launched award recognising accountants as “unsung heroes” for their work to keep Ƶ businesses and the economy afloat during the government-backed loans, tax relief and cash grants.

The team at Derbyshire based industry association AVN for Accountants has launched an "Excellence in Challenging Times Award" to recognise the hard work and dedication accountancy practices have shown throughout the coronavirus.

The winner will receive cash and business improvement training and advice valued at more than £12,000.

With the changing nature of the crisis, information and advice from the Government has changed rapidly, as has financial support for Ƶ businesses such as government-backed loans, tax relief and cash grants.

Shane Lukas, managing director of AVN, said accountants up and down the country had had to adapt quickly to understand what was available and what was best for the businesses they work with.

He said: “We know that accountants have worked hard for their clients. They’ve stayed awake at night figuring out how best to help clients in need.

“They’ve worked long hours, they’ve been their support and counsel, they’ve worked their hardest to get the funding to help them survive and given advice to help them adapt and once-again, thrive.

“Taking stock and considering the wonderful difference accountants have made is important. It’s easy to keep battling on.
