Work starts on new Leicestershire base for Sarstedt

Around 60 jobs will be secured as a result of the investment

How the new Sarstedt base near Leicester will look

Work has started on a new base for a German manufacturer of medical and lab equipment.

Sarstedt Limited is building a distribution centre on a 5.3 acre plot at the Optimus Point distribution park in Glenfield, Leicestershire.

The 61,640 sq ft unit, which will include two-stories of offices, is close to junctions 21 and 22 of the M1 and will replace an existing site in nearby Beaumont Leys.

Around 60 jobs will be secured as a result of the investment.

It gained planning permission in the summer following the appointment of international property and construction consultancy Gleeds as agent and project manager.

Wilson Bowden Developments, part of the Barratt group, based in north west Leicestershire, is the principal contractor while the architect is Stephen George and Partners LLP, based a couple of miles away in Enderby.

The site, which will have outside parking, a service yard, and landscaped areas, is the latest addition to the 65 acre Optimus Point.

Other tenants include Everards Brewery, Boden, Mattel and DPD and the site will give Sarstedt room to expand.
