Eddie Stobart has struck a deal to lease a big warehouse and distribution site in Derbyshire.

The haulage giant has taken the five warehouse site with a loading yard at Merlin Business Park, just off the A50 between Derby and Uttoxeter.

The site was previously occupied by another haulier and has around 135,000 sq ft of storage space.

The deal was brokered by Burton commercial property agents Rushton Hickman who said there is huge demand for big distribution centres in the area due to its central England location and nearby key roads such as the A38, A50, M1 and M6.

Rushton Hickman director Mark Richardson said: “The development was previously occupied for a number of years by a haulier and completely lends itself to Eddie Stobart’s use as a warehouse and distribution site for them.

“We are seeing increasing demand in the area for large distribution bases, driven by our central geographic location and great road links, in this case with the site being easily accessible from the main A50 trunk road.

“We commenced marketing of the development late December.

“By February a deal to lease the site had been agreed with Eddie Stobart Ltd with completion in April.
