'There's never been a more exciting time' - Siemens Gamesa boss on wind conference return for 2021

Offshore Wind Connections returns next month with the manufacturing market leader back as headline sponsor

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy's º£½ÇÊÓƵ managing director Clark MacFarlane will address Offshore Wind Connections 2021.

The return of Offshore Wind Connections to the Humber provides a timely platform for the industry to gather virtually, according to Siemens Gamesa’s º£½ÇÊÓƵ chief.

The major conference is being held next month, after a pandemic pause in 2020, with the global market leader in the sector back once again as a headline sponsor.

Clark MacFarlane, º£½ÇÊÓƵ managing director, has said “there’s never been a more exciting time,” although the announcement of the Hull blade factory being built on the eve of an early event must come close.

Mr MacFarlane, who recently addressed the Humber Renewables Awards, said it would be great for the industry to discuss the opportunities generated by recent developments including government funding, the award of freeport status, industry investment and new jobs in the area.

“Siemens Gamesa has shown real resilience during the pandemic and Brexit,” he said - with plans now in for expansion and a major project preparing for load-out in Hull.

“With recent announcements driving the º£½ÇÊÓƵ wind industry forward and potential further investment on the horizon, there’s never been a more exciting time to be working in the sector. OWC 2021 will bring a like-minded and ambitious community together at this pivotal time.”

Mr MacFarlane, who will also speak at the conference, added: “This is a huge year for offshore wind. With a potential of up to 12GW of new renewables projects available in the Contracts for Difference Round Four (CfD4) auction later this year, now is the time to maximise the economic and climate potential of renewables.

“We also welcome the renewed growth of onshore wind power and support for innovative technologies such as floating wind at a time of accelerated offshore growth. It really feels like we are unlocking the untapped potential of renewables and the Humber is set to be at the forefront of it all, powering the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s energy future.”
