Port operator aims to create thousands of jobs with 30-year plan

PD Ports, operator of Teesport in the North East, has published a plan that aims to make the port one of the best in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ

Teesport operator PD Ports has outlined plans to create tens of thousands of jobs over the next 30 years.

The company's says it wants to make the Tees one the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ’s most successful port regions by 2050, and has published its Future Teesport plan after a year of consultation with businesses and other groups on Teesside.

The plan aims to increase trade, boost exports and investment, create high-quality jobs, and put the Tees Valley at the heart of moves to deliver a zero-carbon economy in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ.

PD Ports is aiming to create as many as 38,000 jobs between now and 2050.

The company's CEO Frans Calje said: “Few regions have confronted challenges like those the Tees Valley has faced, but our resilience and strength is driving our transformation.

“Our vision for the future of Teesport further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to driving sustained economic growth and prosperity across not just our region, but the entire North and the rest of the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ.

“We have world-class infrastructure and facilities along the River Tees with unparalleled connectivity and over 5,000 acres of strategic development land. As part of the only continuous net exporting region of goods in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ, Teesport is the only major port in England to have a positive balance of trade.

“This presents a significant advantage and reinforces our role as a national asset to rebalancing the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ economy. The opportunities are hugely exciting.
