Plans for another huge warehouse park near East Midlands Airport revealed

A £230m, 127 acre warehouse park could be latest to go up on Leicestershire/Derbyshire border

Many warehouses have been busy during lockdown

Plans have been revealed to construct another huge warehouse park near East Midlands Airport.

The area, which is close to the M1 on the Leicestershire/Derbyshire border, has seen a number of big sites go up in recent years including the Segro East Midlands Gateway and East Midlands Distribution Centre.

Now a 127 acre site next to the motorway and A50 in North West Leicestershire has been earmarked for seven more big industrial buildings.

Newlands Developments says the £230 million warehousing complex could create more than 1,100 jobs.

The land off Netherfields Lane, in Sawley, near Castle Donington, is currently used by the East Midlands Shooting Club.

Members of North West Leicestershire District Council’s planning committee will discuss a Newlands Developments application next week, setting out why it wants to build the industrial park.

Planning officers have recommended permission is granted for the scheme, despite the site being outside the area earmarked for development in local planning strategies.

Documents submitted to the council by Newlands do not indicate if any companies are lined up to for the complex, which would be next to a new Aldi distribution centre.
