A new college for people working in logistics and distribution is set to open this summer.

The Centre for Logistics Education and Research (CLEAR) is being built on Magna Park, near Lutterworth, in south Leicestershire, which is one of the biggest distribution hubs in Europe.

It will help companies in the sector address key issues with training and upskilling as the º£½ÇÊÓƵ looks towards renewed growth following the coronavirus pandemic and Brexit.

North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC), which has a campus in Hinckley, is working with Aston University, logistics firm Wincanton, and Magna Park developer GLP to deliver the college.

It will initially be based in Bittesby House in the Magna Park northern extension, before eventually moving into a purpose-built home.

It will accommodate up to 1,000 students when fully operational and will help streamline the process for students to start courses and programmes, while giving businesses advice on funding for apprenticeships.

It will also provide training and professional development at all levels in logistics and supply chain roles.

North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire chief executive Marion Plant said: “Our ambitions for CLEAR are based on offering a holistic one-stop-shop training service both from its base at Magna Park and also remotely online, enabling a flexible skills pathway tailored to meet the needs of specific businesses and providing individuals with well-defined opportunities to progress their careers.
