Global pharmaceutical solutions provider Origin has opened a new state-of-the-art warehouse facility in Scunthorpe.

The East Yorkshire operation has taken on a significantly larger site south of the Humber from its Melton headquarters, creating a huge stockholding facility for º£½ÇÊÓƵ and international pharmaceutical clients.

It is described as helping protect against short-term Brexit delays and Covid restrictions, while creating a more efficient packaging supply chain for years to come.

At 86,000 sq ft, it is more than three times the size of the current 25,000 sq ft operation, and is set within a 5.9-acre site on Foxhills Industrial Estate.

Currently rented, a purchase hasn't been ruled out as part of a long-term growth strategy, should the possibility arise.

Rich Quelch, global head of marketing at Origin, said: “Origin’s new warehouse facility marks an important milestone for the company, supporting our ambitious growth plans and securing Origin’s long-term position as a market-leading partner to the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and international pharmaceutical industry.”

The facility has capacity for 4,900 fully barcoded pallet spaces, a 20,000 sq ft holding area and four loading bays.

Mr Quelch said a warehouse management system increases pick accuracy, stock management and efficiency, allowing Origin to fulfil client orders across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and the rest of the world at market-leading speeds.
