Major Humber port expansion proposal unveiled by ABP

Four berth roll-on roll-off facility planned for Immingham

Port of Immingham. Plans for the new jetty, berths and terminal focus on land - and water - just within Immngham Oil Terminal to the bottom right.

A huge investment in a new terminal is being proposed for Port of Immingham to significantly expand its roll-on roll-off operations.

A four berth facility has been put forward, with consultation to launch next week ahead of a formal planning application this summer. It could lead to hundreds more jobs, with tens of millions spent on the infrastructure.

ABP said the Immingham Eastern Ro-Ro Terminal would build on the “significant and long-established trade route between the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and continental Europe”.

It comes with freeport status for the Humber now active, and due to the strategic nature would require a Development Consent Order signed off by the Secretary of State.

Simon Bird, ABP's director of the Humber ports said: “This is an exciting moment for the Port of Immingham. As we continue to expand and as traders increasingly look to the Humber ports to bring goods into the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, ABP continues to invest in our infrastructure to service our customers. We are keen to hear from the community and from businesses in the area about our plans to expand our roll-on roll-off offer in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s largest port.”

The new facility will feature jetty and berths - just within the port’s footprint close to Immingham Oil Terminal off East Riverside.

Landside it would feature improved hardstanding, Terminal buildings, and an internal site bridge which will cross over existing port infrastructure, including an ABP controlled railway track. Roll-on roll-off is a huge part of Immingham's trade, with lorries being driven on direct, unaccompanied trailers only or other unitised cargo.
