Hundreds apply for Appledore shipyard jobs in Devon

The shipyard owners Harland and Wolff welcomed 500 prospective employees at the two-day event.

More than 500 would-be workers attended the careers open day at Appledore Shipyard last week.

There were reports of for the two-day event held by the shipyard's new owners Harland & Wolff.

And the company still wants to hear from interested workers who are being invited to submit CVs.

Hundreds find out about the jobs available at Appledore:

John Wood, chief executive of Infrastrata, the asset management firm behind Harland & Wolff, said it was a great opportunity to set a solid workforce foundation in preparation for potential new contracts.

It is at the site when it fully re-opens.

He said: “Harland and Wolff (Appledore) has a key role to play as part of an exciting new era for º£½ÇÊÓÆµ shipyards and shipbuilding, supporting º£½ÇÊÓÆµ industry and revitalising economic growth here in the South West.

“A skilled local workforce is crucial to our success and as part of the acquisition. Over the coming weeks we will be welcoming some old faces back into the yard and introducing new employees, ensuring that we have a truly balanced, experienced and well-rounded workforce” he added.
