The boss of one of Hull’s biggest transport firms fears “major job losses” in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s logistics sector in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Peter Brown, CEO at Neill & Brown Global Logistics, said he still has no answers on the huge issues the haulage industry would face if problems are not addressed before October 31.

Huge concerns surround the worryingly small number of truck permits which have been granted to logistics companies for European travel.

To date, almost 2,000 º£½ÇÊÓƵ haulage firms with dealings across Europe have applied for a total of 11,382 permits to work across the continent.

Of those, just 984 yearly permits have been granted.

Mr Brown said: “Companies will be left with far too few permits to carry out their day-to-day business.

“This will seriously cut the amount of trips to the continent that the industry can make, leaving trucks and drivers redundant and enabling European operators to pick up º£½ÇÊÓƵ business.

“It’s a critical situation for hauliers, but we don’t seem to be able to get any answers, despite our industry associations putting pressure on the government.”
