Plans to create a huge logistics park in Derbyshire creating thousands of jobs have received another major boost.

The Horizon29 scheme, at Markham Vale, off Junction 29a of the M1 has been granted planning consent for its second phase, comprising 574,000 sq ft of warehouse and logistics space.

It brings the total amount of space at the site with planning permission to 1.4 million sq ft.

The first phase of the development, for 824,000 sq ft across five units, ranging from 73,000 sq ft to 310,000 sq ft, was granted planning consent earlier in the year and plots are now available for development.

The second phase will consist of three industrial units, ranging in size from 113,000 sq ft to 250,000 sq ft.

Work at Horizon29 is already underway with extensive ground works completed and infrastructure changes and highways and service upgrades about to commence.

It was recently announced that the South Yorkshire Pension Fund and the SCR Jessica Fund had provided a £15.25 million loan to support the development of infrastructure at the site.

Horizon29, which has the potential to create more than 2,000 jobs, is being delivered by a joint venture between St Francis Group and iSec.
