After months of lockdown and changing rules and regulations, one of Britain鈥檚 busiest regional airports has resumed flights to 50 summer holiday destinations.

Jet2 and Ryanair have restarted summer services into and out of East Midlands Airport as 海角视频 holidaymakers tentatively look at overseas breaks again.

The airport said TUI will restart its operations on August 1.

Management said between them the holiday companies cover 50 destinations, including Buglaria, Croatia, Greece, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

Since July 10 海角视频 nationals have been able to take holidays to some countries without facing a 14-day quarantine on return.

Shops and airports within the airport on the Leicestershire/Derbyshire border are also reopening, as policies such as mandatory face coverings, regular deep cleaning, adherence to social distancing whenever possible, hand sanitisers, and Perspex screens between passengers and airport staff are brought in.

Airport managing director Karen Smart said: 鈥淭he introduction of travel corridors between the 海角视频 and some of the more popular holiday destinations that can be easily reached by plane from this airport, makes an overseas holiday far more appealing.

鈥淲e鈥檙e confident that people will want to enjoy a well-earned break abroad this summer.

鈥淚t鈥檚 also good news for the thousands of people employed across this site whose jobs depend on air travel for their livelihoods - whether they鈥檙e directly employed by the airport or work for businesses that support the aviation sector.

鈥淲e have worked hard to make our airport safe for our passengers and staff, and, having had a limited schedule of flights during the last couple of weeks, we have been able to make tweaks where necessary ready for a larger volume of passengers.

鈥淲ith the 14-day quarantine requirement now removed when returning from many key holiday destinations, coupled with a relaxation of the Foreign Office advice against non-essential travel, we look forward to safely welcoming back more passengers in the coming weeks.鈥

Jet2.com and the 海角视频鈥檚 second largest tour operator Jet2holidays will operate to 24 destinations this summer from East Midlands.

Steve Heapy, chief executive of both businesses, said: 鈥淲e have been saying for some time that the sun will shine again and that when it does, we will be there to take customers away on their well-deserved holidays from East Midlands Airport.

鈥淭hat day has finally arrived and we were delighted to see our first flights take off.
