An immersive safety facility launched by offshore wind developer Orsted on the Humber has picked up industry awards in both the energy and performance spheres.
Thrive Safety Leadership Centre, developed to aid delivery of the next world-leading wind farm, Hornsea Two, is a £1.4 million investment in Immingham.
The Danish giant joined forces with Active Training Team to deliver a creative approach, bridging the gap between theoretical safety training and the reality of the offshore working environment.

Combining interactive experiences, film, live action exercises and discussion, a hypothetical scenario examines the build-up to a fatal incident on a load-out operation and its consequences.
And it has won both the Energy Institute’s 2021 Award for Health and Safety and the Gold Award for Best Training Event at the EVCOM London Live and Film Awards.
Energy Institute Awards judge, Ashley Hynds, technical director at SafetyWSP 海角视频 Ltd, said: “ATT's Thrive programme with Orsted is clearly outstanding, and a worthy winner of the Energy Institute’s 2021 Health & Safety Award. It won universal praise from the judging team.
"The scale and realistic nature of the events presented, and the commitment to the programme by Orsted, are impressive. Feedback from attendees confirms that it provides a really immersive and hard-hitting experience. The approach has the potential to be successfully applied across many other major hazard sectors. Well done to all at ATT for delivering such an impactful programme, and to Orsted for having the vision to invest in safety in such an innovative way.”

Thrive received full marks from one EVCOM judge and received the following feedback from another: “This is an outstanding example of training excellence which is impactful, pedagogically sound, and highly memorable to the point of encouraging, maybe even securing, long-term behavioural change. Launched during the pandemic, it also supports 60 jobs in the port town, up river from Orsted’s East Coast hub base in Grimsby - the cluster where its wind farms are operated and maintained from.
It sits just across the estuary from where turbine components are loaded out at Green Port Hull.
Patrick Harnett, Orsted’s programme director for Hornsea Two, said: “Constructing the world’s largest offshore wind farm 89km from the coast means that safety has to be at the heart of everything we do; it is an incredibly demanding and unforgiving environment.

Thrive is already open to others, having been used by construction and operations teams throughout Orsted and its supply chain as installation nears completion on the latest project - the 1.4GW 165-turbine addition.
