An easing of bottlenecks around º£½ÇÊÓƵ ports has been reported by a key operator.

Covid, Brexit and the Suez Canal incident conspired to bring significant challenges for goods shipments, leading to longer lead times and congestion at quaysides.

But DFDS, a major player in the market with its º£½ÇÊÓƵ head office in Immingham, said there had been a recent easing.

In its monthly volume report, released to the City today, the company told how total volumes were 5.4 per cent down on the same month in 2020, though º£½ÇÊÓƵ routes were in growth from 2019 levels. The past year has seen a 7.9 per cent uptake in total volumes.

DFDS said: “The decrease in total volumes compared to 2020 was due to lower volumes on most º£½ÇÊÓƵ routes as stockbuilding ahead of Brexit boosted volumes last year.

“The negative impact from supply chain bottlenecks, that reduced volumes in Q3 and October, eased during November.

“North Sea and Channel volumes were in November again above 2019.”
