Amazon has confirmed it is helping to create more than 400 jobs on the outskirts of Hull, as the company behind a huge logistics operation.
A new £30 million delivery centre at Melton West will see 70 on-site roles supplemented by hundreds of drivers - with seasonal peaks.
The 10,000 sq m building is expected to be fully operational this summer, to serve the online retail giant’s burgeoning customer base.
Focused on ‘last mile’ parcel handling, it is adjacent to another huge development with intense speculation that would be a regional hub.
Kerry-Anne Lawlor, country director for Amazon Logistics, said: “We are excited to continue to invest in the Hull area with a new delivery station that will provide efficient delivery for customers, and create new jobs for the talented workforce.”
The delivery station at Brickyard Lane will receive packages from “neighbouring” fulfilment and sortation centres.
And it comes with an offer to entrepreneurs to build their own delivery businesses, as well as welcoming independent contractors under its partnership.
The Wykeland development was approved by East Riding planners in October, with plans for 24/7 operation revealed at the time. Hessle-based CR Reynolds was appointed to provide the infrastructure to open up the site.

It will take the total number of jobs on the 200 acre park to around 2,000, joining 800,000 sq ft of developed property. Neighbours will include Heron Foods, generator manufacturer Allam Marine and shower maker Kohler Mira.
Amazon said will receive competitive pay and comprehensive benefits, with rates starting at £9.70 per hour. The package includes private medical insurance, life assurance, income protection, subsidised meals and an employee discount – which combined are worth more than £700 annually – as well as a company pension plan.
It also supports career development with 95 per cent of tuition fees covered.
