900,000 sq ft warehouse scheme could employ 1,200 people

Developers want to build on parcel of land originally singled out for 1.2m sq ft Jaguar Land Rover parts warehouse

Griffen and Gulf Ventures 2 want to build four new warehouses in Desford

Developers want to put four big industrial units on a site in a Leicestershire village.

They want to redevelop a parcel of land which currently has planning permission for a 1.2m sq ft parts distribution warehouse for Jaguar Land Rover in Desford.

The car maker no longer needs the site because of a purpose-built warehouse complex being built for it 15 miles away in Appleby Magna.

The new owners of the Neovia warehouse site in Desford want to knock down some existing buildings and build the four units instead.

They say the 900,000 sq ft scheme could eventually employ 1,200 people.

The complex would straddle land on the western side of the village and sit within the footprint of the planned Jaguar Land Rover warehouse.

The biggest building under the new plans would be 500,000 sq ft.

There are fears it could add to traffic problems and overdevelopment in the village which already has one new housing scheme being built and planning for another across the road from Neovia.
