Around 400 jobs could be created under plans for a huge new warehouse and distribution centre at an East Riding business park on the outskirts of Hull.

Plans submitted by Hull-based developers Wykeland stated the 8,720 sq m facility would be built at the Melton West Business Park, near North Ferriby.

The project’s estimated cost of £30 million is thought to be the largest investment in the region for some time.

It is believed the development is for a “global logistics company”, thought to be Amazon, with the company focusing on ‘last mile’ delivery operations.

The online retail giant and Wykeland have declined to confirm who will operate the centre.

If passed by East Riding Council it is understood the business would look to open next year, providing a major boost for the local jobs market.

Roles would range across semi-skilled and professional including warehouse staff, drivers, technicians and back office staff such as finance and logistic specialists.

It comes after questions surfaced over the future of Intergreen in East Yorkshire, after the Newport base of the huge floral operation was put on the market after a Tesco contract was lost.
