ABP has opened a new £1 million welfare facility for staff at the º£½ÇÊÓƵ's largest port to create a "better place for people to work".

Pilgrim House, a new building at Immingham comes equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including new shower rooms; a fully functioning canteen as well as heating and air conditioning throughout.

It features male and female changing rooms with drying rooms for workers' uniforms. The welfare facility also has disabled access with lifts and separate toilets and changing rooms on the ground floor.

Humber ports director, Simon Bird, said: “It’s taken a lot of time in terms of getting it designed and built. It took us a year to get the plans together and another year to get it built.

“The dock workers themselves have had a huge input regarding what we’ve installed. They were asked what they wanted, and we’ve delivered exactly that.

“It’s giving colleagues a great place to work and ensures that they have the right facilities and a place for downtime.

“If they’ve had a hard day or a hard shift then they need a good place to come back to. Our ethos is to give them ways to deliver their jobs. Since the flood in 2013, the workers have been dealing with cabins as staffrooms.

“We need somewhere where they can feel safe and happy at work. After what they have been through it’s about time these men and women had first class facilities.”
