The next world-leading project in the Humber cluster has brought up the Danish firm's millennial milestone

Ørsted has installed its 1,000th turbine in º£½ÇÊÓƵ waters.

The world’s leading offshore wind developer has hit the ‘millennial milestone’ on what will become the world’s leading wind farm - Hornsea Two.

Number 16 of the 165 Siemens Gamesa turbines that will make up the huge array off East Yorkshire brought the key figure up, 15 years on from the build out of Barrow, off the North West coast.

Ørsted alone accounts for almost half of all installations in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

Duncan Clark, Ørsted's º£½ÇÊÓƵ head, said: “This is a significant milestone for the company, the industry and the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s journey to a cleaner energy system.

“The º£½ÇÊÓƵ is the world leader in offshore wind, with the largest installed capacity and projects like Hornsea Two are helping the country to make significant strides towards the government’s legally binding net zero targets.

“The transformation we have seen since our first offshore wind installations is nothing short of incredible - with turbines more than doubling in size and cost of electricity generated dropping by more than half. When Hornsea Two is completed in 2022, our º£½ÇÊÓƵ fleet of offshore wind farms will be capable of generating enough clean electricity to power more than 5.5 million homes.”

Duncan Clark, head of º£½ÇÊÓƵ region for Orsted.

In the intervening years 300 have been added in the Humber cluster alone, with Westermost Rough, Race Bank and current world leader Hornsea One now all operational.
