Much of the company's recent growth has been attributed to the development and manufacture of traditional powertrain products, and by working collaboratively with automotive customers. Also credited for its growth is Nifco º£½ÇÊÓƵ's ability to diversify into the manufacture of products for Electric Vehicles, the business is capitalising on the opportunities that are arising from the phasing out of solely petrol or diesel powered vehicles, securing its growth long into the future.

The North East Business Awards

It's all part of the forward-thinking ethos of the company, which has been at the heart of manufacturing in the region for decades. Nifco º£½ÇÊÓƵ, formally known as Elta Plastics Limited, was established in 1967 on a site at Yarm Road, Stockton-on-Tees.

Elta Plastics was acquired by Nifco Inc. in 1990, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of the group. This was a key moment in the recent history of the company and the support of its Japanese parent company has enabled the business to grow into one of Teesside’s largest employers.

In December 2011, Nifco º£½ÇÊÓƵ took ownership of a new state of the art factory based in Eaglescliffe, Stockton-on-Tees. The new plant allowed Nifco to further increase capacity, explore new markets and secure the long-term future of Nifco in Stockton.

After less than a year in the new factory, it became apparent that the rate of growth Nifco was experiencing was going to require a second factory. Nifco opened its Factory 2 on the same site on Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe in 2014. This was part of a £14 million investment, which included the first R&D facility for the Nifco Group outside of Japan and further machinery to equip the expansion.

Alongside its award-winner status - there have been accolades from the North East Business Awards, the British Safety Council and Investors In People - Nifco º£½ÇÊÓƵ is also very much part of its community, which includes fundraising every Christmas and monies distributed to local charities.

"There's a lot of things I'm proud of," said Mr Casey.

"But I think the main thing I'm proud of is the talent that exists in the company and the 'can do' attitude."
