Creating Enterprise has been praised for establishing a unique programme that helps local people into employment and invests in the community.

was founded by Cartrefi Conwy back in 2015 and it has quickly grown into the social contractor of choice for the region.

In fact, it was recently named the Fastest Growing Company in North Wales, the third fastest growing company in Wales, and the Fastest Growing Construction Company in Wales 2020.

Adrian Johnson, managing director Commercial services at Cartrefi Conwy, said: "What makes Creating Enterprise special is its focus on people.

"All of our commercial profits are invested into our social purpose which is to help tenants and local people into employment initiatives.

"As a social enterprise, we're serious about improving lives and creating better futures for Cartrefi Conwy tenants and local people via our flagship .

"In short, we aim to help people to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities.

“Which is why we’re delighted to sponsor the prestigious Community Award at the Daily Post / North Wales Live Business Awards 2022.”

More than 'just a job'

The Creating Futures Academy is all about improving lives and creating better futures(Image: Creating Enterprise)

The Creating Futures Academy offers a host of tailored support, helping participants write CVs, fill in application forms, and prepare for job interviews in the near or immediate future.

Adrian explained: "When you join our employment academy you get more than ‘just a job’. You can learn more about specific sectors such as retail, care and construction, plus gain accredited qualifications and connect with local employers.

"In total, the Creating Futures team offered Job Search Support to 240 individuals - 90 of whom entered employment in 2021/22. Every one of those who secured a job remained in employment for at least three months.

“Our Creating Futures programme has grown beyond employability support. From free family activities to loan IT and digital skills support – there are so many ways we can help.

"All our initiatives have been developed in collaboration with Cartrefi Conwy tenants and our local communities to focus on what matters most to them.

“In 2021/22 we registered 1,276 attendances at our play sessions, loaned 74 IT devices and supported 29 local community groups to deliver events and activities.

"These figures really highlight the ongoing impact of our projects - not only on individuals but on local businesses and the wider community."

Affordable, energy-efficient homes

Never one to rest on its laurels, Creating Enterprise has also branched out into modular home construction to meet the growing demand for zero carbon homes.

In 2021, they opened a timber-frame manufacturing factory in Rhyl - which received funding from the Welsh Government and the Coastal Community Fund. It houses an £80,000 machine to manufacture metal-web joists for floor and roof structures.

Creating Enterprise has invested £1m in the project that’s also designed to play a key role in regenerating Rhyl’s West End.

Adrian said: "The factory serves the dual purpose of offering Cartrefi Conwy tenants and local residents unique opportunities to upskill, with a number of paid roles available through our Employment Academy.

"It also means we are now manufacturing components that are being used in energy-efficient Passivhaus homes as well as being sold via our supply chain partner, Travis Perkins, in outlets in North Wales and direct to developers.

"It all ties into our strategy to build 1,000 homes with rock-bottom energy bills and dovetails with the Welsh Government’s strategy to deliver affordable, energy-efficient homes that tackle fuel poverty."

Working tirelessly

Of course, Creating Enterprise remains focused on its day-to-day business, carrying out planned maintenance and refurbishment works in social housing properties across North Wales.

Adrian said: "Our Property Services team works absolutely tirelessly to ensure that tenants' homes are safe and comfortable.

"We always offer the highest quality standards of customer care, workmanship and value for money - and the best thing is, when you hire Creating Enterprise, you’re also helping to provide work for local unemployed people.”
