Businesses at Plymouth Science Park Support University of Plymouth graduates

Plymouth Science Park works closely with the careers service at the university

Students head to the Science Park for work experience every year

Over the past three years, 40 students from the University of Plymouth have taken part in a work placement (year in industry) based at the Plymouth Science Park.

The scheme, which is offered to undergraduates at the university between their second and final year, provides essential work experience and helps develop skills to support learning.

Plymouth Science Park works closely with the careers service at the university to encourage businesses based at the park to take on a student placement for mutual benefit.

Simon Taylor, Employer Engagement & Placement Manager at University of Plymouth said: “We work closely with Plymouth Science Park to give students access to placement opportunities and real-life work experience.

"To date, some impressive businesses have taken part giving our students the opportunity to work on ground-breaking science and technology innovations."

He added: “The dynamic and interesting placements help our students gain real life work experience and develop a further passion for their subject. It is always fantastic to hear from employers and students about how well placements have gone.”

A high proportion of placement students return to their host business to secure permanent employment after graduating.

Dr Michael Green Naval Systems Director for surveillance, tracking and gunfire control specialists, Chess Dynamics, said the scheme had worked well for them.
