The Barclays 100x100 º£½ÇÊÓƵ Covid-19 Community Aid Package has helped several Midlands charities.

Throughout the past year, communities across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ have been struggling to fight the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning that large companies and charities alike have had to pull together to give the less fortunate their support.

wasted no time in helping the people it serves, the bank started its £100m Covid-19 Community Aid Package in April 2020 - providing assistance for organisations that were delivering impactful, on-the-ground support to vulnerable individuals and groups impacted by the crisis.

This year the company is also sponsoring this year's CSR Project of the Year category at the on Thursday, October 14 - where each finalist of the 12 categories will be celebrated for their hard work and accomplishments.

Participants will be businesses operating from a diverse range of sectors and can be either a new firm or a well-established organisation.

Nigel Higgins, chairman for Barclays, says: “Covid-19 has created an unprecedented social and economic impact in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ, with many experiencing greater hardship due to the crisis.

“As a bank we have been doing all we can for our customers, clients and colleagues, and we hope that by partnering with these charities, collectively we can ensure that as many people as possible in the communities in which we live and work are supported through this crisis.”

The Coventry Live Business Awards, being held on Thursday, October 14, celebrate the best firms and organisations across the city and surrounding region, giving them a platform to be applauded for their hard work.

Barclays sponsored the CSR Project of the Year category in 2019 and will be sponsoring it again this year as the company has a firm commitment towards managing the social impacts of its businesses and the communities in which they are based.

Val Newbold, Area Business Manager, Coventry and Warwickshire, says: "We're really pleased to be involved in an initiative that showcases those companies in our region who work hard to support their local communities.

"It's something that is very close to our hearts too. I'm sure the awards will further demonstrate the positive impact these companies are having on their local communities, their employees and the wider region.

"And we are proud to be sponsoring the Coventry Live Business Awards this year to further show our community support."

The Myton Hospices

The Myton Hospice was one of the charities to receive the Barclays plc £100k grant.

is part of a specialist healthcare trio, with branches based in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick that are focused on enhancing patients' quality of life when a cure is no longer an option for them.

Taking care 'beyond its hospice walls' is a key focus for the organisation, which has recently announced it will be purchasing two Toyota Rav 4 self-charging 4x4 hybrids, and a new wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) as well.

The new investment has been made possible thanks to a massive £100k donation from Barclays as part of its Covid-19 Community Aid Package.

It will mean nurses and clinical staff from The Myton Hospices are able to visit patients in their own homes whatever the weather, and help transport wheelchair patients to and from vital services.

What's more is that the two self-charging vehicles will be able to reduce future costs for the hospices, as well as its carbon footprint and vehicle pollution, in turn benefiting the wider population of Coventry and Warwickshire.

The Myton Hospices CEO Ruth Freeman says: “A huge, huge thank you to Barclays for this truly amazing donation at what is a future-defining time for The Myton Hospices.

“While we will not take our focus off providing end-of-life care in our hospices, Myton has a long-term and long-standing goal to further improve the care and support it offers patients and their families beyond the hospice walls, which has only been enhanced and re-focused by the coronavirus pandemic.

“The donation from Barclays to purchase these new vehicles will play such a huge part in these plans.”

The CoventryLive Business Awards will celebrate and recognise the top companies and organisations across the city region. As the City of Culture for 2021 and the host of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, there is no better city to be working in.

The 2021 awards will celebrate the achievements of a host of different businesses operating in a very diverse range of sectors alongside the stand-out achiever, Company of the Year for 2021. After the entry closing date on Friday, August 20, 2021, three finalists will be shortlisted within each category by a judging panel.

The winners will then be announced at the awards, which takes place on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at the Coventry Building Society Arena and will be hosted by Emma Jesson
