Barclays sponsored the CSR Project of the Year category in 2019, and will be sponsoring it again this year, as the company has a firm commitment towards managing the social impacts of its businesses and the communities in which they are based.

The award is for recognising the businesses that have gone above and beyond to adhere to their corporate social responsibilities and develop schemes aimed at bringing about great local benefit.

Lisa Webb, head of corporate relations for the West Midlands at Barclays, says: "We're really pleased to be involved in an initiative that showcases those companies in our region who work hard to support their local communities.

"It's something that is very close to our hearts too. I'm sure the awards will further demonstrate the positive impact these companies are having on their local communities, their employees and the wider region."

A life-saving grant from the Barclays £100m Covid-19 Community Aid Package means that the charity can continue its vital work, at a pivotal time when more and more women are reaching out for help - especially in emergencies.

One woman the charity has helped is Aniyah, who fled her abusive family and was on the streets with her baby before she came into the refuge, where she was provided with clean clothes, toiletries, towels and nappies (Aniyah's name has been changed to protect her identity).

Popinder Kaur, The Haven’s chief executive says: "We are so grateful to the Barclays Community Aid Package for awarding us a grant that will enable us to provide not only a safe place to sleep, but a whole range of holistic support including counselling and therapies for women and children who desperately need it so they can look forwards to a brighter future.”

“We will be working with our partners to identify those households who will benefit most from this support, and provide vital provisions that will ensure they are not disadvantaged further by the crisis.

The Myton Hospices

The Myton Hospices was one of the charities to receive the Barclays £100k grant

is part of a specialist healthcare trio, with branches based in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick that are focused on enhancing patients' quality of life when a cure is no longer an option for them.

Taking care 'beyond its hospice walls' is a key focus for the organisation, which has recently announced it will be purchasing two Toyota Rav 4 self-charging 4x4 hybrids, and a new wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) as well.

The new investment has been made possible thanks to a massive £100k donation from Barclays as part of its Covid-19 Community Aid Package.

It will mean nurses and clinical staff from The Myton Hospices are able to visit patients in their own homes whatever the weather, and help transport wheelchair patients to and from vital services.

What's more is that the two self-charging vehicles will be able to reduce future costs for the hospices, as well as its carbon footprint and vehicle pollution, in turn benefiting the wider population of Coventry and Warwickshire.

The Myton Hospices CEO Ruth Freeman says: “A huge, huge thank you to Barclays for this truly amazing donation at what is a future-defining time for The Myton Hospices.

“While we will not take our focus off providing end-of-life care in our hospices, Myton has a long-term and long-standing goal to further improve the care and support it offers patients and their families beyond the hospice walls, which has only been enhanced and re-focused by the coronavirus pandemic.

“The donation from Barclays to purchase these new vehicles will play such a huge part in these plans.”
